Background: MD, PhD and MBA with over 35 years of leadership experience in SMEs and global bio-pharma.
Track record: Experienced Big Pharma executive (Merck-Serono, Novartis) and successful venture capitalist generating high multiples for investors. Raised several hundred million dollarss for start-ups and executed over 30 M&A transactions and IPOs.
Highlight: Founding CEO of Ganymed Pharmaceuticals AG, which was acquired by Astellas for €1.4 billion.
Prof. Dr. Christian Becker is co-founder of Syntab and serves as Chief Scientific Officer. In parallel, he has been head of the Institute of Biological Chemistry at University of Vienna since 2011. His major research interests are the controlled modification of peptides and proteins to obtain tailor-made molecules, e.g. modified with polymers, or posttranslational modifications for bio-chemical and biotechnological applications.
Between 2004 and 2008 he worked at the Max-Planck-Institute of Molecular Physiology in Dortmund as a group leader in the department of physical biochemistry. He has two years of experience in the biotech industry working for Gryphon Therapeutics Inc. in South San Francisco, USA, from 2002 to 2003. He obtained his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Dortmund in 2001 and his diploma in 1998. Prior to his engagement at the University of Vienna, he was professor and head of the group of protein chemistry at the Technical University Munich since 2008.
